Russian Dolls

I have been looking at russian dolls which has given me a idea which i feel with work really well. As in russian dolls, they have dolls inside of dolls which follow a similar pattern. I have thought about shapes inside of shapes.
As i have been creating 3D shapes such as cubes etc. I have thought about creating a cube with a pattern cut into it, then following the same pattern and cube size it down to fit inside the original cube. Then i will continue this process until i have a few cubes inside cubes with the same pattern cut out.
I will also try adding colour to the cubes inside the cubes so there will be colours inside of colours aswel as shapes.
I have used Illustrator again here to create another cube template. With this I have added in colour to each other sides, this is because when you cut out the black squares you will be able to look through into the cube and see a different colour on each side of the cube's inside.

Here i have used Illustrator to create some repeated patterns using geometric shapes. I plan on using these images to stencil out of my 3D paper models i am creating. From these images i have started to look at putting them in templates to see how they will work.

Above i have created a template of a cube which i intend to cut out and use to make a 3D cube. However i have added a pattern which i intend to stencil out of the template so when the cube is put together there will be this pattern cut out the side of the cube, so you will be able to see through parts of the cube, which i feel will be really interesting.

Geometric Shapes

Here are some images of geometric shapes which i created on illustrator. I plan on using these images to try and create patterns from which i can use to stencil out of 3D shapes which i plan on creating.

Old wave ideas

Here are some images which i have created inspired by waves.
I have tried to create this piece by using different sized strips cut up then slotted into slits which i cut to keep them in place.

I quite like the effect that placing different strips in different places gives you quite a flowing feeling i think.

old wave ideas

Here are some pictures which i took when i was still thinking about my wave idea.

These pieces here i have created out of diamond pieces of paper folded over then stuck together to create a curved wave shape which i also think had a feel of a sea shell to it.
I think the ridged edges of this piece work well and give a nice shadow to the work.

Change in Idea

I feel like i am off to completely change my way in this project. The main reason is i have not been able to think of any real ideas which jump out at me.

However today I have had an idea i feel i am off to look at paper cutting and stencilling as these are two ways of working which i really like.

As the project is repeat patterns I think I am off to look at repeating a pattern by using paper cutting. I am going to look geometric shapes and floral patterns for creating my patterns.

And hopefully with the stencil that has been cut out I will be able to create a 3D sculpture which is made up from paper cuts.

Wave Idea

After looking at waves and coming up with some ideas i decided to have a quick go at creating a paper sculpture inspired by waves.

I am very happy with how it has come out and i feel it kind of captures the idea of waves quite well.
I tired different width's of paper cut and benign folded to try and represent waves with there different powers.

For this piece i did not use a grid or any kind of marking i just drive in straight away.

Ideas - Waves

I have been looking at natural forms for ideas for this project and waves are appealing to me quite i lot.

I feel the curves that the waves create would come across really well.

The images have come from google images here

Paper Folding 2

Here I have tried using a bigger piece of paper to try and create a bigger paper sculpture, However with the weight of this paper and the size the paper just folds under its own weight. So if I wanted to create a bigger sculpture I need a heavy and stronger weight of paper.

So as the paper folds under it own weight i decide to hang up the paper and see how it fell under its own weight. I think outcome is very interesting and i feel i will experiment with hanging paper under tension and freely could be quite interesting.

Paper Folding

As i missed the 1st session of paper folding. This weeks was my 1st go at it and i really got into the project.
Here is a few pictures of my attempts with folding paper.

The above photo's are my 1st two paper folding outcomes i am very happy with how they have come out.

He i have tried experimenting with light to see how shadows and light change the appearance of the sculpture.
I really like how this has come out and i feel i am off to experiment more with light and shadows with my sculptures more as i feel it could have some very interesting outcomes.
