Scanned in Pages from Sketch book

Here is  a few pages that i have scanned in from my sketch book, to show i have been coming up with a few idea for the poster.

Two of the ideas are inspired by Rob Ryan these two, will be made from a single sheet of paper which i will then cut out some images and fold them up so that they are 3D when you lay down the sheet of paper and that they will be on different levels aswel.

One will just be of a hopefully good guilty image of my final sculpture with text added on it in photoshop or illustrator.

And my last idea would be of the images that are below in my blog of the dog eared paper, which is explain down there.

Richard Sweeney

Here are some pieces by Richard Sweeney, who is a artist which has been coming in to our uni and helping us with the basics of paper folding.

I find his work so amazing how he can create some thing that looks so pure and perfect out of paper. I was amazed when are came in to do a work shop with us and in a few mins this paper was created into a beautiful sculpture with only a few cuts and folds it was amazing.

Myself i am find it very had to create something that flows out of paper. As i dont feel i have taken to this project that well.
This is way my work is very simple forms with geometric shapes.

Fail :(

My russian doll idea has kind of failed on me, as i wanted to hang them i have not been able to figure out how to suspend each cube inside the cube on its own. This has left me in a pickle of how to figure out how to fix it or i will have to go in a different direction.

I could stick with the doll idea however this would mean that they are placed on the ground so that the cubes inside each one another will stay in the place i set them in.

But i am thinking having the cubes still hanging but have them hanging one after the other from smallest to biggest

Quadra Gallery Posters

These Quadra Gallery posters done my Donna Wearmouth have really inspired my idea for geometric paper cutting. I think they are so powerful even tho they are so simple i think its amazing.

I hope my work comes out with the same effect that these posters do, as i have kept it simple with just geometric patterns that i have repeated.

Dog Eared Poster idea

Here are few examples of a poster idea i have been working on for GF Smith paper celebrating a 100 years of paper.

The idea is very simple its self which is what i like about it. It is all about the pure paper. The information of the GF Smith paper has been stencilled out of the poster its self in Helvetica. I chose this font as i looked on the GF Smith website and it looked like the font they where using, so I thought this would be a good idea to use.
The right hand corner has been dog eared. This is because when ever i see paper there is normal a corner that has been lent on or folded over to remember a page or been a bit battered and i thought it was quite a simple symbol of paper.

The idea for this was to have the poster hanging then shine light on it in different angels to create different lighting effects on the poster.

Here are a few examples of how it is coming out i am quite happy with it at the mo, but i think it needs to be played around with more.

Not much time left

Not much time left on this project and i am still unsure what is going to be my final image.

I am quite liking the russian doll idea with the smaller shape inside. I have also had the idea of creating a few of the same object the hanging them at different levels to see what that will look like.

Prymid

I have moved away from the cube here to a Pyramid. I found this shape quite a bit easier to work with than the cube template i am not sure why it just seemed to work better. This is also my 1st try of my russian doll idea by having a smaller pyramid inside the bigger one with the same design cut out. I went for a very simple triangle shape to cut out, this was to see if it would work but also so it would give you a big space to see through. I am quite liking how it looks and it will be interesting to see what they look like with a different pattern cut out.
